South Carolina Pick 4: Fireball Cannot Fix Two Wrong Positions

Check South Carolina Pick 4 Fireball replacements one position at a time, distinguish base and add-on outcomes, and budget the doubled complete play cost.

On a Straight ticket, Fireball can help when one official drawn position prevents an exact match and the replacement digit resolves it. It cannot edit two wrong positions at once. That limit remains true even when using the same Fireball digit twice would make the ticket look perfect.

The easiest check is to keep your selection unchanged and write a separate candidate for each permitted replacement. Do not rub out inconvenient digits until the result fits.

Freeze the selected four digits

Pick 4 uses four digits from 0 through 9, allowing leading zeroes and repeated digits. Suppose your Straight selection is 6042. Leave that selection fixed while checking both the regular result and any add-on result.

If the official result is 6092, the base Straight condition fails because the third position differs. Matching the other three positions is encouraging to look at, but it is not a regular Straight win.

You must also have purchased Fireball before using replacement combinations. Seeing a helpful Fireball digit in the result does not add the option to an ordinary ticket retrospectively.

Create four separate candidates

With an official result of 6092 and Fireball 4, the one-position replacements are 4092, 6492, 6042 and 6094. The third candidate matches the unchanged Straight selection 6042.

Each candidate begins again from the official 6092 result. They are not cumulative edits. You do not take 4092 from the first step, change another position and keep going until several digits have been replaced.

Writing the four candidates makes this visible. One candidate changes position one, another position two, another position three and another position four. That process is the boundary of the replacement operation.

Two mismatches remain two mismatches

Now keep the selection 6042 but change the hypothetical result to 6093, still with Fireball 4. Replacing the third digit gives 6043, which still fails the fourth position. Replacing the fourth gives 6094, which still fails the third.

There is no permitted single replacement producing 6042 from that result. You cannot replace the nine with four and separately turn the three into two in the same candidate. Fireball is not a general wildcard for every wrong position.

This explanation concerns Straight. Box uses an any-order condition and must be checked under that purchased wager. Do not move between Straight and Box after seeing which interpretation makes a result more favorable.

Keep the two prize checks separate

First check the unchanged official result under the base wager. Then, if Fireball was purchased, check the permitted replacement results under the separate Fireball schedule. South Carolina states that qualifying Fireball prizes are additional to base-game wins.

That does not mean every ticket receives both. A replacement-only match and an unchanged base match are different situations. Use the official chart for the actual wager, amount and qualifying replacement count.

When repeated digits make candidates look similar, use the lottery's official examples or ticket validation. Do not assume that every ticket has four payable add-on wins, or remove a candidate simply because its displayed digits resemble another candidate without checking the governing rules.

Double the complete play cost

The listed basic component amounts are 50 cents and $1. Fireball doubles the cost of each play. For Combo purchases, begin with the full arrangement price before applying that doubling.

For four different digits, a 50-cent-per-order Combo costs $12 for one drawing because it buys twenty-four Straight components. With Fireball, that purchase is $24. Across five purchased drawings, the total becomes $120.

That is very different from adding fifty cents to the full Combo and expecting all its components to receive Fireball. Count component wagers, complete board price, add-on and drawings in that order.

Use the correct session’s Fireball

Midday drawings are approximately 12:59 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and evening drawings approximately 6:59 p.m. daily. There is no Sunday midday drawing, and the instructions also exclude midday on Christmas Day.

Sales suspend at 12:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Read the ticket's date and session, then use the base result and Fireball belonging to that same session. A Fireball from another game or another drawing cannot be borrowed because it happens to help.

Keep the original secure and confirm possible wins through official validation. The South Carolina directory provides other formats. For this check, preserve the original result and the unchanged ticket selection so each replacement remains one clear, auditable step.
