North Carolina Cash 5 can give the same five-number selection several jobs. It enters the main drawing, can enter a separate Double Play drawing, and can serve as the comparison set for an instant EZ Match result. The numbers may be shared, but the winning checks are not.
If you bought the add-ons, checking only the main drawing leaves the purchase unfinished. If you did not buy them, seeing a match in another section of the results does not create an entry after the fact. Start by reading what the ticket actually includes.
Decide what you are buying before choosing numbers
The basic Cash 5 entry costs $1 and uses five different numbers from 1 through 43. Double Play costs an additional $1 per play, and EZ Match adds another $1. Buying all three for one play therefore costs $3.
The operator’s FAQ confirms that both extras can be added to the same retail play. They are not a compulsory package, and neither is a substitute for the base entry. The FAQ also says Double Play and EZ Match are available at retail rather than through Online Play.
That distinction is useful when comparing purchases with a friend. Two people can spend different amounts on the same selected numbers because one has bought the main entry alone and the other has included extras. Check the printed options, not just the familiar five-number line.
The main drawing has its own prize chart
The base game’s standard chart awards $1 for two matches, $5 for three and $250 for four. Five matches reach the rolling jackpot category. The official rules include payout provisions and limitations, so the chart is a guide to the category rather than a replacement for final validation.
There is no player-selected bonus number. Suppose your selection is 7, 16, 25, 34 and 43, and the main result is 7, 16, 22, 34 and 39. You have three matches, placing this example in the standard $5 category.
Do not combine the five printed selections with numbers from another line on your ticket to assemble a better result. Each play is checked as its own selection. A number appearing on a neighboring line does not repair a missing match on this one.
Double Play is another drawing, not a multiplier
If purchased, Double Play enters the same selection into a second drawing with its own winning numbers and prize chart. It does not multiply the main drawing’s award or let you choose the better result afterward.
Continue the example using 7, 16, 25, 34 and 43. Imagine the Double Play result is 3, 16, 25, 34 and 43. That produces four Double Play matches. The standard Double Play chart awards $500 for four, compared with $12 for three and $3 for two. Its five-match top award is normally $50,000, subject to the rules’ limitation when more than five plays match all five.
In this hypothetical purchase, the main drawing produced three matches and the second drawing produced four. If Double Play was bought, the standard charts give $5 plus $500, or $505 in drawing prizes. Without that add-on, only the main-draw result applies.
The practical lesson is to label the results before counting. Writing “main: three” and “Double Play: four” is safer than seeing four familiar numbers on a results page and assuming they belong to the base game.
EZ Match is checked against your printed selection
EZ Match is an instant feature. The terminal prints five EZ Match numbers with associated prize amounts. A matching EZ Match number is compared with the corresponding Cash 5 play’s selected numbers, rather than with either later drawing.
Using the same hypothetical selection, an EZ Match number of 25 beside a $4 amount would produce that instant award if it matched the relevant play as the rules require. The $4 is an illustrative printed amount, not an assumed award for every match. Read the amount actually assigned on your ticket.
That instant result remains separate from the two drawing checks. A loss in the main draw does not erase an instant win, and an instant win does not establish that either drawing entry won.
If you redeem EZ Match before the scheduled drawing, preserve the remaining entry. The lottery’s FAQ specifically tells players to obtain their exchange ticket. Resolve a missing exchange ticket at the retailer rather than leaving without evidence of the outstanding plays.
Extra features do not shrink the number pool
Five selections from 43 produce 962,598 possible sets. One particular set has a five-match probability of 1 in 962,598 in a single drawing. Adding Double Play gives access to another drawing; it does not change the main drawing’s pool into a smaller one.
Similarly, the instant feature is another purchased product, not a way to make your selected numbers more likely to appear later. Treat the extra dollar or two as part of the total entertainment cost before deciding whether to include it.
The game name also needs its state attached. Virginia Cash 5 has a different number pool and prize structure. A search result for that game cannot establish a North Carolina payout, even when the names look almost identical.
Before putting a ticket aside, confirm the state, selected numbers, covered dates and purchased options. Check the instant section separately, then check each purchased drawing against its own result. Use the North Carolina directory for other local games and the lottery’s official channels for validation.
