Show Me Cash puts a moving jackpot beside smaller prizes that stay at their stated amounts. That distinction is easy to overlook when the headline grows: a larger jackpot does not turn a three-match ticket into a larger three-match award.
Missouri’s optional EZ Match adds another result to check, but it is settled against your printed selections rather than the later drawing. The useful way to read a purchase is to establish what belongs to the drawing, what belongs to the instant feature, and which issued ticket still represents an entry you need to keep.
Start with five different numbers from thirty-nine
One basic Show Me Cash play costs $1 and contains five selections from 1 through 39. Choose them yourself or use Quick Pick. There is no separately selected bonus ball, and the order of your five numbers does not matter.
For example, 6, 15, 24, 32 and 39 is a valid selection. A result containing those exact five numbers is a complete match however they are arranged. A result containing 38 instead of 39 is not, even though the last selection missed by just one.
Missouri’s playslip has separate boards for separate plays. Keep those groups intact when checking. Finding five drawn numbers scattered across several boards does not create one winning five-number set. Each purchased board must qualify on its own.
The jackpot grows while the smaller chart stays distinct
The lottery advertises a jackpot beginning at $50,000, increasing until won, with a minimum increase of $5,000 per drawing. Use the current official result for the amount applicable to an actual ticket; a remembered headline may belong to a different date.
The standard smaller awards are $250 for four matches, $10 for three and $1 for two. They are not calculated as a personal percentage of the advertised jackpot. The highest applicable category on a play determines its award rather than every lower category it contains.
Suppose you entered 6, 15, 24, 32 and 39, and the drawing produces 6, 15, 24, 32 and 37. You have four matches, putting that play in the $250 category. You do not add $10 for each three-number subset that can be found among the four matches.
If a later drawing has a much larger jackpot but your play matches three numbers, the standard three-match award remains $10. A growing headline changes the top category; it does not rewrite the smaller prize chart.
A two-match award is cash, but may only cover part of the purchase
Two matches produce a $1 drawing prize. On a single $1 basic play, that equals the entry cost. It is different from the free-ticket outcome found in some other states’ five-number games.
If you purchased the $1 EZ Match option as well and it lost, a $1 drawing award does not recover the full $2 spent. Likewise, a ticket containing several paid plays has a larger total cost than any one board.
This is why it helps to record both the award and the original purchase amount. “Won a dollar” is a valid description of a prize; “made a dollar” would suggest a profit that may not exist. The difference becomes clearer when you keep the whole purchase in view.
EZ Match compares printed numbers with your own selection
EZ Match costs an additional $1 per play. Five instant numbers and associated amounts print below the Show Me Cash selection. A matching instant number wins its displayed amount when compared with the corresponding selected numbers, regardless of order.
Using the example selection, an EZ Match number of 24 can qualify because 24 is on that play. Whether 24 appears in the nightly drawing has no bearing on this instant check. The displayed prize amount beside the matched instant number is what matters.
Do not add the instant numbers to the later winning set, or borrow selected numbers from a neighboring board when checking an instant panel. The printed groups need to remain paired correctly.
The lottery says each play purchased with EZ Match prints as a separate ticket. If you requested several boards, count the issued tickets and confirm their selections before leaving. A stack of small tickets is easier to misplace than one purchase receipt suggests.
Redeeming the instant result does not finish the drawing entry
The official rules allow an EZ Match win to be redeemed before or after the Show Me Cash drawing. If you claim it while a drawing is outstanding, make sure the remaining entry is represented by the appropriate issued ticket before leaving the retailer.
Check the numbers and dates on any replacement or continuation ticket. The instant award may have been settled while the original selected set still has a drawing ahead. Losing track of that remaining entry would be a recordkeeping mistake, not an unlucky number choice.
For a multi-draw purchase, track the outstanding dates rather than assuming one completed drawing settles the entire ticket. Missouri offers consecutive-drawing options up to 14 drawings; the dates actually printed are the entries to check.
Understand the combination count without reading it as a forecast
Five numbers chosen from 39 produce 575,757 possible sets. One particular selection has a five-match probability of 1 in 575,757 in a single drawing. Choosing numbers personally or using a valid random selection does not change that probability.
The published overall prize odds are approximately 1 in 8.77. That includes the $1 two-match category, so it is not a jackpot probability or a guarantee of recovering the entire purchase cost every ninth play.
Other games can share a five-of-39 format while using different prizes. Maryland Bonus Match 5, for example, introduces a drawn bonus ball with its own lower-tier categories. The shared pool size does not transfer those rules to Missouri.
Use the Missouri game directory to identify the correct local product. For Show Me Cash, check the drawing date, count exact matches within each play, resolve any instant section separately and validate through the operator. Keep every issued ticket that still carries an unchecked entry.
