Maryland Pick 4: Advance Play Starts Later, Not Automatically Today

Build a Maryland Pick 4 Advance Play calendar, distinguish drawing days from sessions, and preserve remaining entries after an early prize redemption.

A Maryland Pick 4 ticket bought today can deliberately begin on a later day. Advance Play exists for that purpose, but it is not the same as buying the next available drawing and hoping the terminal skips to the date you had in mind.

Before choosing numbers, make a short calendar of the events you intend to enter. That calendar is a planning aid; the printed ticket is what ultimately confirms the purchase.

Specify the first day and the session separately

Maryland’s Advance Play instructions describe a future start rather than a start today. You mark the day of the week on which the drawings should begin and the requested drawing span, then specify Midday, Evening or both.

Suppose, purely as an illustration, you buy on a Tuesday and want Friday and Saturday Evening entries. Your requested first day is Friday, the session is Evening, and the intended event list has two entries. A Tuesday Evening entry is not part of that plan.

Read the actual start and end dates on the ticket. A verbal request for “Friday” is less precise than a full calendar date plus session, especially if you are thinking about a later week than the terminal permits.

Keep the Advance Play boundary tied to purchase day

The operator says the available Advance Play span depends on the first drawing day and cannot extend more than six days after the purchase date. Do not interpret a later start as granting a new unrestricted seven-day window.

In the Tuesday example, the requested Friday and Saturday events fit within the following six-day boundary. Trying to extend the same purchase through the next Tuesday would go beyond six days after purchase, even though that Tuesday is only four days after the chosen Friday start.

This is a calendar calculation, not a claim about what an interface will accept in every circumstance. Check the dates actually offered and printed. If the requested range is unavailable, do not assume the terminal silently purchased the intended range anyway.

Count both sessions as two events per day

Pick 4 uses four digits from 0 through 9. For a simple price example, choose a fifty-cent Straight on 0572. Its ordinary winning condition is exactly 0572, including the initial zero.

Two Evening events cost $1 in total. If the same two dates also include Midday, the purchase covers four events and costs $2. A three-day purchase with both sessions contains six events and costs $3 at that fifty-cent stake.

The number of calendar days and the number of drawings are therefore not always the same. Maryland issues one ticket for the selected drawings and days, so do not use the number of paper tickets as a shortcut for counting coverage.

Extend the purchased wager, not an assumed one

Straight, Box, Straight/Box and Combo have different conditions and purchase structures. Advancing the date does not change one into another. The fifty-cent Straight example has a $2,500 ordinary exact-match award, while its $1 Straight counterpart has a $5,000 award.

If the illustrative result is 5702 instead, the fifty-cent Straight on 0572 loses despite containing the same digits. A separately purchased Box would have to be checked under its own digit-pattern row.

Before multiplying a multi-day price, confirm the complete amount for the chosen wager. Do not treat a Combo’s per-arrangement amount as the price of its entire bundle, or a mixed Straight/Box as two full-dollar stakes.

Check the special Sunday evening schedule

Maryland’s current schedule lists Pick 4 Midday sales closing at 12:24 p.m. daily. Evening sales close at 7:52 p.m. Monday through Saturday, but at 8:05 p.m. on Sunday. The corresponding Sunday evening drawing is later too.

Use the operator’s current schedule when making a purchase rather than assuming every day shares the weekday evening timing. A drawing’s announced time is also not permission to buy until that instant; sales close earlier.

The important proof remains the ticket’s session and date. A purchase accepted after one event closes may concern a different event, and remembering when you visited the retailer will not override the printed record.

Preserve later entries when redeeming an early win

Suppose the first event on a valid multi-draw ticket wins while the second remains pending. Maryland’s instructions allow a qualifying prize up to $600 to be cashed at a retailer, with an exchange ticket for the remaining plays.

Before leaving, compare the replacement’s unresolved dates, session, selection and wager with the original plan. Cashing an early prize should not cause a later paid event to disappear from your own checking routine.

Sign and protect tickets, check every purchased event, and use official validation. Maryland requires claims within 182 days after the relevant drawing; follow the current claim process for the validated amount.

The Maryland lottery directory compares other games. On Pick 4 Advance Play, settle three questions before paying: when does coverage start, which sessions are included, and where does the purchased date range end?
