Louisiana Pick 3: Paper and Digital Slips Have Different Defaults

Check Louisiana Pick 3 paper and digital wager defaults, understand what an app playslip does, and distinguish preparing selections from buying a ticket.

Switching from a paper playslip to Louisiana's digital playslip can change the default cost of a Pick 3 entry. If the play type and amount are left unspecified, the published defaults are 50 cents Straight on paper and $1 Straight digitally.

Your three selected digits may be identical in both cases. The purchase terms are not. This is a useful reason to review the complete wager when changing how you prepare a ticket.

Separate preparing a selection from purchasing it

The Louisiana Lottery app lets you prepare digits and game options, then take a code to a licensed retailer to purchase a printed ticket. A saved digital selection is not itself the completed lottery purchase.

Treat the code like an organized request. Until the retailer processes it and issues the ticket, you should not count the intended drawing as entered. An app screen showing the right digits is helpful, but it does not replace receiving the official purchase.

After printing, compare the actual ticket with the request. Check digits, play type, amount and drawing dates. A transition from paper to phone is convenient only if those details remain the ones you wanted.

Do not carry a paper assumption into the app

Suppose you prepare a Straight selection of 072 without specifying an amount. Under the listed paper default, that is a 50-cent Straight wager. The digital default is a $1 Straight wager.

At those amounts, the published exact-match prizes are $250 and $500 respectively. Both require exactly 072 and have a 1 in 1,000 matching chance. The higher default buys a larger stake on the same ordered outcome, not twice as many possible results.

Across ten such entries, the amount difference is $5 versus $10. The small change is easy to overlook in a single purchase and more noticeable when repeated. Specify the amount rather than relying on memory of your previous method.

Order remains part of Straight

Pick 3 uses three digits from 0 through 9, including leading zeroes and repetitions. Straight on 072 does not qualify on 720. The same symbols in a different order answer a different matching question.

Box accepts the distinct arrangements of the chosen digits. Three different digits have six orders; two identical digits have three. The computer can select the digits through Quick Pick, but random selection does not turn Straight into Box.

This is another reason to check defaults separately. An unspecified play type is Straight in the published default purchase. If you want rearrangement coverage, choose it explicitly rather than assuming it follows from a familiar number set.

Straight/Box divides a dollar

The $1 Straight/Box option combines 50 cents Straight and 50 cents Box. With three different digits, the published payment is $290 for the selected exact order or $40 for another qualifying order. A three-way pattern pays $330 exact or $80 rearranged.

These combined exact amounts already contain the Box component. Do not add another Box payment after reading the listed exact-match total. Likewise, do not attach a full-dollar Straight payment to a half-dollar Straight component.

Combo is different again: it purchases every distinct exact order and multiplies the component amount by the number of orders. Check the full ticket total before repeating that purchase across drawings.

A replay repeats more than the digits

Instant Replay allows a previous ticket to be used to request the same numbers, drawing count or options again. That is useful when the entire old purchase still suits you, but less useful if only the digits remain your preference.

Before replaying an advance ticket, decide whether you also want its coverage and total cost repeated. A request intended as “those digits once tonight” should not be left to an assumption that every old option is still wanted.

For Multidraw, keep the issued ticket while drawings remain. If you collect an early win, Louisiana issues an Exchange ticket recording the balance of the covered drawings. Check and retain it with the same care as the original.

Buy before the nightly deadline

The published same-day sales deadline is 9:30 p.m. Louisiana time. Tickets purchased afterward enter later eligible drawings. The lottery lists daily drawings with Christmas Day and Easter Sunday exceptions, so use the actual dates issued rather than assuming an uninterrupted calendar run.

Keep the original secure and use official validation for potential prizes. The regular claim period is 180 days from the drawing in which the prize was won.

The Louisiana game directory provides other formats. For Pick 3, the practical check when moving between paper and phone is simple: did the method change only how I selected my digits, or did I also accept a different wager by leaving its fields blank?
